CJ Nickson became Oklahoma’s 11th four-star recruit for the 2025 class on Tuesday.
The Weatherford edge rusher chose the Sooners over Oklahoma State. He ranks third in the state’s 2025 class and is the 13th-ranked edge rusher by 247Sports.
Standing at 6-5 and weighing 220 pounds, Nickson was also recruited for basketball by ORU, Tulsa, and UT Arlington. In an OUInsider interview, Nickson mentioned discussing the possibility of playing both sports with OU men’s basketball coach Porter Moser.
Although he did not receive a basketball scholarship offer, he was offered one by the football team in January 2023.
The Sooners now have commitments from six Oklahoma players, including four of the top seven in 247Sports’ rankings.
With 18 total commitments, 247Sports ranks the Sooners fifth nationally for the 2025 class. They are currently third in the SEC, behind Alabama (No. 2) and Georgia (No. 3).
Nickson is one of three recent commits to Oklahoma. On Sunday, Emmanuel Choice, a wide receiver from Lancaster, Texas, chose the Sooners over Texas A&M, USC, and Nebraska. Last week, Marcus Harris, a wide receiver from Santa Ana, California, committed to Oklahoma over his 31 other Division I offers. Harris, a four-star recruit by 247Sports, is the 17th-ranked receiver in his class and the 15th-ranked player from California.
Oklahoma’s 2025 class includes eight defensive and eight offensive players. They have four receivers, including Elijah Thomas, the No. 6 receiver in the class, and two offensive linemen: four-star tackle Ryan Fodje and three-star inside offensive lineman Owen Hollenbeck.
Looking ahead, Oklahoma’s 2026 class gained its third commitment on Monday when four-star quarterback Jaden O’Neal chose the Sooners over Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, and Washington. Three-star tight end Ryder Mix committed on June 15.
The Sooners’ 2026 class is ranked third nationally, behind Florida State and USC.
