The ex-Seminole is now in the transfer portal for the second time since December.
Several former Seminoles have once again entered the NCAA Transfer Portal since the 15-day spring window began this week. This trend persisted on Friday when former Florida State offensive lineman Qae’Shon Sapp declared his departure from East Carolina after just a few months with the team. Sapp initially entered the portal in December after the ACC Championship. Although he briefly joined FAMU, he opted to reassess his choices after head coach Willie Simmons moved to Duke.
In early January, Sapp settled with East Carolina and participated in spring practice with the team. However, shortly after the Pirates’ annual spring game, the Georgia native opted to seek other opportunities. One potential destination to keep an eye on is Florida Atlantic, where Sapp has hinted at a possible reunion with former teammate Daughtry Richardson in Boca Raton.
During his two seasons at Florida State, Sapp appeared in only two games. His sole on-field action occurred during last year’s home opening victory over Southern Miss, while he mainly contributed to the scout team otherwise. Sapp, a four-star prospect in the 2022 class, joined the Seminoles with high expectations.
In the winter, FSU bolstered its offensive line with several additions from both high school ranks and the transfer portal. Among the newcomers are Richie Leonard IV from Florida, TJ Ferguson from Alabama, Jacob Rizy from Harvard, as well as highly-rated prospects Manasse Itete, Jon Daniels, Tye Hylton, and Jayden Todd. With these additions, the Seminoles now have 17 scholarship players on the offensive line.
During this spring, Florida State has seen two players, wide receiver Joshua Burrell and cornerback Greedy Vance, enter the transfer portal. The program still needs to reduce its number of scholarship players to meet the limit of 85 scholarships.
In the winter transfer portal window that closed on January 4, the Seminoles witnessed a significant number of players enter the portal. This list includes quarterback Tate Rodemaker (Southern Miss), quarterback AJ Duffy (San Diego State), running back Rodney Hill, running back CJ Campbell (FAU), wide receiver Goldie Lawrence, tight end Markeston Douglas (Arizona State), tight end Preston Daniel (Miami-Ohio), offensive lineman Thomas Shrader (Appalachian State), offensive lineman Bless Harris (TCU), offensive lineman Daughtry Richardson (FAU), offensive lineman Qae’Shon Sapp, defensive end Gilber Edmond (South Carolina), defensive lineman Dennis Briggs (Illinois), defensive tackle Malcolm Ray (Rutgers), defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase, linebacker Dylan Brown-Turner (UTEP), and kicker Tyler Keltner (Oklahoma).
