Alejandro Grimaldo has dismissed speculation about leaving Bayer Leverkusen in the upcoming summer. The Spanish national has been a standout performer for the club this season, contributing nine goals and 11 assists in league matches.
At 28 years old, he has seamlessly integrated into Xabi Alonso’s system in Germany, with Leverkusen currently contending for their first-ever Bundesliga title. Holding a ten-point lead over defending champions Bayern Munich, Grimaldo’s team is in a strong position, also competing in knockout matches in the DfB Pokal and UEFA Europa League.
Speculation surrounding Grimaldo’s potential departure and a move to the Premier League alongside Alonso continues to escalate. However, the former Benfica wing-back appears content with his current situation in Germany.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Grimaldo stated, “Every summer there’s chatter about my future, linking me to various clubs, but my focus remains on Leverkusen.” He emphasized his commitment to Leverkusen by saying, “This season has been successful for us. My aim is to clinch titles with my club and earn a spot to represent Spain in the Euros. Right now, I’m solely focused on the present, which is quite satisfying.”
Grimaldo’s contract with Leverkusen runs until 2027, and it’s speculated that the club would demand a fee of at least €50 million to entertain a potential summer transfer.
Meanwhile, Alonso’s team is gearing up for a hectic return to action next month, with a domestic cup semi-final against Dusseldorf and a Europa League quarter-final clash against West Ham United on the horizon.
