With the MLB Trade Deadline a month away, the New York Yankees are at the center of discussions and major trade proposals.
The latest suggestion, from The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner, Jim Bowden, and Brendan Kuty, features the Yankees potentially acquiring Jazz Chisholm Jr., a former All-Star second baseman and centerfielder for the Miami Marlins, in exchange for significant assets.
In this hypothetical trade, the Yankees would send starter Nestor Cortes, right-handed pitcher Brock Selvidge, and shortstop prospect Roderick Arias to the Marlins.
Chisholm, who played at an All-Star level in 2022 with an .860 OPS and 138 OPS+ over 60 games before a back injury sidelined him for the rest of the season, transitioned to centerfield in 2023. His ability to play both positions would be appealing to the Yankees, potentially easing the burden on Aaron Judge in centerfield.
However, Chisholm has not replicated his 2022 success at the plate, with an OPS+ of 100 and 109 in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Despite these concerns, the 26-year-old, who remains arbitration-eligible through 2026, would be a notable addition to the Yankees’ trade considerations.
