Four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon from Lovejoy (Tex.) is a prime target for Florida State University’s 2025 class, particularly in the wide receiver position. After attending FSU events three times in 2023, he made his inaugural trip to Tallahassee in 2024 on Saturday. During his visit, he had the opportunity to witness the Seminoles’ second spring scrimmage and engage in other visit activities.
Reflecting on his experience, McCutcheon expressed positivity, stating, “It was good to get out and experience what it’s like to be at a Florida State practice.” He appreciated the chance to observe coaches like Mike Norvell and Ron Dugans in action, gaining insights into their coaching styles and player interactions. Expanding on his observations from the scrimmage, he offered insights into the coaching methods of Norvell, Dugans, and other staff members.
“It’s intriguing; they’re certainly a vocal bunch,” remarked McCutcheon. “I’m drawn to the atmosphere and what they bring to the table, and I believe I can grow as a player by coming here.”
The 6-foot, 175-pound athlete also outlined how he envisions his role within FSU’s offensive strategy after observing the scrimmage.
“I see myself fitting in as a versatile receiver, capable of lining up both inside and outside. Watching the plays unfold, I noticed many opportunities for receivers to switch positions seamlessly. That’s where I see my strength lying, and it was surprising to see how some of the receivers, despite their size, excel in the slot.”
Despite not visiting FSU yet this year, he disclosed his perception of the ‘Noles within his recruitment prior to this trip.
“They’ve consistently been at the forefront,” McCutcheon emphasized. “They’re the benchmark school I measure others against, and they’ve consistently remained at the top of my list.”
Following his recent visit, where does Florida State stand now?
“They’re still right up there at the top, alongside the other schools.”
McCutcheon mentioned that Ohio State, USC, and Texas are also significant contenders in his recruitment. All four schools are included in his official visit schedule during the summer period.
These official visits are scheduled as follows: Ohio State (May 31 – June 2), USC (June 7-9), Texas (June 14-16), and Florida State (June 21-23).
He elaborated on what distinguishes FSU from the other programs vying for his commitment.
“Each school brings something unique to the table. For FSU, their emphasis on being a family-oriented team sets them apart from others.”
Regarding his interactions with the Seminoles’ staff, McCutcheon highlighted his close communication with wide receiver coach Ron Dugans, emphasizing the bond they’ve developed.
“Our relationship is pretty tight,” McCutcheon commented on his rapport with Dugans. “We touch base almost every other week, checking in on each other’s families and activities, just keeping up with one another.”
The talented receiver intends to make his college decision before his senior football season, aiming for sometime in July or August.
According to 247Sports.com, McCutcheon ranks as the nation’s No. 207 overall prospect and the No. 20 wide receiver in the 2025 class.
He’s showcased his talent with impressive stats, recording 92 receptions for 1,423 yards and 19 touchdowns in his junior season this past fall.
